Silicon metal = Sichuan Province is one of main bases to produce silicon metal in China but Huanan District of China still has such other main bases as Hunan Province, Guizhou Province, and so on and, therefore, it is not clearly known how extent does this earthquake influence on silicon metal to be delivered for exports. On the contrary, Chinese producers have been suffering from a daily rise of price for coke (as reducer) and a sharp rise of price for electrode, relying the supply on imports. Accordingly, owing to these factors to raise costs, a trend to rise price of Chinese silicon metal is not negligible. The prices of Chinese silicon metal with 5.5.3 grade contracted for shipments to Japan in April - June quarter are on a level of US$2,300 per metric ton CIF and the trading companies concerned have a view that it will be unlikely for Chinese producers to request Japanese customers to revise the prices fixed under the existing contracts for a reason of the earthquake occurred in Sichuan Province. Namely, Chinese producers have highly depended their sales of silicon metal on the exports. However, the price of Chinese silicon metal to be proposed to aluminum alloy plants of Japan for shipments in July - September quarter seems to be in the direction to rise, having no relation to the earthquake, and Chinese side has aimed to rise the price to a higher level than US$2,500 per metric ton CIF Japan.
